McCain clearly doesn’t believe there are enough smart Republican voters, nor influential and/or brave and/or responsible enough Republican “intellectuals” to make any difference whatsoever in terms of influence when it comes to the most irresponsible VP choice in recent American history.

I think he’s right.

Update: Andrew is a good, principled conservative, but he’s been kicked out of the club for being sane and gay. His voice is not representative of today’s Republican party, and that is, in many ways, too bad.

Update 2: I meant “smart” in the political and policy sense. There are plenty of smart people on both sides of the political aisle, of all levels of education and identification, who don’t know jack-squat about political policy.

Update 3: Because, primarily, The Man has made things too complex for Average Joe to bother with.
