Just like good ol’ Torquemada, not too many Muslims seem to sense the strangeness in using violence to protest a cartoon about Muslims being violent.
Beheadings? They’re for God. Flying planes into buildings? God again. Bombing abortion clinics? Yep, that one’s God, too. Imposing political and cultural will on people through violence? OK, on that one, God is merely an inner-circle guy; he has to argue with Cheney and Rumsfeld. It does though seem indisputable that He has our President’s ear, at minimum.
You had better hope your vision of God is close to the POTUS’.
Heck, the Protestant minority that was trying to flee persecution in Europe one day became America. First thing we gotta do? Ethnic cleanse. Those injuns are savage. (Might be easier if we liquor ‘em up first.)
Oh, mark my word: God is back, and, looking backward at least, that does not bode well for stability and peace. Here’s some really qualified guy talking about it:
In many ways, what we witness today in parts of Africa, Asia and Europe is a re-enactment of a similar tide of religious violence that once swept across Europe when the emotional power of religion was aroused and manipulated to intimidate, harass and persecute the people. Despite the enlightenment that education and modernisation has brought, it is unfortunate that we witness yet again the negative impact of religion on our societies. Perhaps today more than ever before, religious symbols and idioms are being manipulated to promote hatred, intolerance and violence
Best of luck to all!
